I recently finished watching The Durrells in Corfu on PBS. It was one of those stories that inspires me to lead a more interesting life (in the 1st quarter of 2021, after living through 2020, that would not be much of a challenge). After being recently widowed, a woman decides to move from England to Greece with her mostly school age children to give them a more interesting life. They are an eclectic bunch that likely get along better on an island in Greece than in a resort town in Dorset county England.
The family spends four of the children’s most formative years before the beginning of World War II in Corfu. There are obvious culture and ideology clashes happening constantly. In fact, the Durrells probably had their share of ideology clashes back in England. I find it a heartwarming and entertaining family saga based on the autobiographical trilogy by Gerald Durrell.
Check it out for a bit of television family fun, or read the book for some added detail.
